A week before Christmas Villar Asks Concerned Authorities to Ensure Safety, Ease of Travel of People

A week before Christmas…
Villar Asks Concerned Authorities to Ensure Safety, Ease of Travel of People
Warns the public about various schemes and modus operandi of criminals

Amidst the Christmas holiday rush, Nacionalista Party President Senator Manny Villar is concerned about the safety and well being of Filipinos—both in the cities and those who are traveling to the provinces for family reunions.

“We all know that criminal activities intensify during the holiday season. We should watch out for criminal elements who are out to take advantage of unsuspecting people in the malls, streets and transport terminals,” said Villar.

He added police visibility near shopping malls, ports, airports, and bus terminals should be increased in order to prevent any untoward incidents. According to Villar, reports have reached his office that there are syndicates that target returning overseas Filipino workers or OFWs.

“Napakalungkot naman na nabibiktima ang ating mga kababayang OFWs na umuuwi sa ating bansa at excited makasama ang kanilang mga pamilya ngayong Pasko. Marami sa kanila, sa airport pa lang ay nabibiktima na. The criminals did not even spare recently honored ‘CNN hero of the year’ Efren PeƱaflorida who was victimized at the airport recently,” said Villar.

The PNP, according to reports, has instructed its regional offices to activate their respective security and public safety plans. According to Villar, police authorities should also strictly conduct security checks particularly in checkpoints and criminal hotspots.

“An increasing number of holdup incidents take place inside buses, jeepneys, and taxis. Police in civilian clothes can help ensure the safety of commuters and travelers. Some OFWs traveling from the airport to their homes in nearby cities and provinces also run the risks of being apprehended by roadside hold-uppers. We should really be vigilant about crimes, from petty to organized ones,” said Villar.

Villar also urges transportation agencies to ensure that buses or ships that will ferry people to around the country to attend Christmas gatherings are safe and in good condition. “Port authorities should be on guard against overloading. We want to avoid anything that will ruin the festive celebration of our fellow Filipinos. For instance, taking a ship to attend a family reunion should not end into a tragedy,” he also said.

PACQUIAO DECLARES ALL-OUT SUPPORT People’s Champ for Villar

PACQUIAO DECLARES ALL-OUT SUPPORT
People’s Champ for Villar

World boxing champion and Time magazine cover Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao declared his all-out support for Nacionalista Party (NP) president and standard-bearer Sen. Manny Villar.
Villar swore in Pacquiao, who is running for congressman of Saranggani, along with his People’s Champ Movement local party slate, in the boxing icon’s mansion in General Santos following his 31st birthday celebration at the KCC Events and Convention Center attended by over 2,000 guests including Villar.
“Manny Pacquiao, who has thrown his best punches to hoist our country’s pride and honor, is a deeply valued partner in our campaign to help keep our people from being knocked out by extreme hardships,” the NP standard-bearer who was born to poverty in Tondo said.
Villar likewise emphasized, “Our affinity is anchored on our common backgrounds in poverty where we harnessed the Filipino values of hard work and determination which have seen us through our struggles.”
Taking oath as Nacionalistas with Pacquaio were his gubernatorial running mate Juan Domino and vice-gubernatorial bet newly retired provincial administrator Fred Basino, along with two board members and seven mayors of Saranggani. Pacquiao’s lawyer Franklin Gacal, congressional candidate for South Cotabato’s first district, also took oath before the NP standard-bearer. NP senatorial bet Ilocos Norte Rep. Bongbong Marcos attended the event.
At his birthday bash, Pacquiao introduced Villar as “the upcoming president” of the Philippines, and asked the NP standard-bearer to draw the winner of a brand-new car which the world’s no. 1 pound-for-pound boxer raffled off.
The well-loved Pacman is the first fighter in boxing history to win seven world titles in seven different weight divisions, following his victory over Miguel Cotto in Las Vegas on Nov. 14 via technical knockout in the 12th round. It was the most watched boxing event of the year where Pacman gained the WBO World Welterweight title.
As cover of the prestigious Time Magazine, Pacquiao earlier said, “It is a great honor for me to be the face of my people and let everyone know we are a small but mighty country." He joined the ranks of international sports superstars Michael Phelps, Serena and Venus Williams, Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods as cover.
He arose from a niche sports star to a mainstream figure worldwide, with Time Magazine citing him anew as among its list of “people who mattered.” Pacquiao is also the first athlete the Philippine Postal Corp. has honored with his own stamp. The crime rate in the country dips during Pacquiao’s bouts, which are heavily viewed and cheered.

What did this man do for this country??? No to NoyNoy!

As much as I loved our late president Cory AQ, I don't like Noynoy. On Cory's burial ceremony, He spoke and hinted about his political ambitions rather than respecting the old president..Tse.Tse.Tse. He took advantage of the situation. Without her death, nobody would even vote for him. His Father's name and respect to Cory Aquino is only thing keeping him up in the lead. Aside from that, this guy did no any thing great for this country! He is not half the man his mother was! But Manny Villar is! For our country sake, Vote for Manny Villar. The only one who doesn't get involved in any corruption. His clean records speaks for himself. His wealth came from his own sweat and blood. From being poor, to riches ---from ashes to sunrise!

No Platform, No Glory!

Benigno S. “Noynoy” Aquino III is running for President. The current news stream of his “weighing the decision” and “seeking the support of the people” should not fool anyone, nor should the “discussions” within the Liberal Party about his candidacy. Those of us who are experienced in marketing can recognise “buzz generation” when we see it, and as for the conundrum he has presented the Liberal Party, which until recently was fairly well-organised behind a Mar Roxas candidacy, they appear to have two unpalatable choices: Either to roll over and accept a lesser but more-popular candidate, or see one of their senior and most-recognisable members openly compete with their party’s standard-bearer as an independent.

Aquino’s carefully-calculated ambiguity is necessary because he made a slight tactical error in not announcing his candidacy immediately after his mother’s death. The news cycle and the public attention span are not long enough to maintain the necessary level of enthusiasm to wait for him to observe his family’s period of mourning and settling the matter with the LP to make his announcement, so having not seized the moment, he has to keep everyone interested long enough to get those things out of the way. But at this point, announcing his candidacy is just a formality; for all intents and purposes, he is already running.

That being the case, we can begin to subject the Aquino platform to objective scrutiny. This is published on his website under the tab “platform”. While these particular points were offered as his “platform” for his Senate candidacy, Senators are nationally-elected and so must offer platforms of national relevance; thus pending an update or expansion of his positions (which the Senator is cordially invited to do here), his published Senatorial platform can be considered his Presidential platform. The following is what Senator Aquino has to offer, in its entirety:

“I am determined to continue the fight started by my father and my mother to see that democracy takes root and is strengthened in our country. This cannot happen in a government that serves the interest of the powerful few. We must strengthen the institutions of government so that they truly serve the interests of our people.”

In the light of attempts to weaken our democracy, I therefore stand to;

1. Strengthen the Senate as an independent branch of government;

2. Continue to hold government to account for its excesses and misgovernance;

3. Resist Charter Change if done to serve the selfish interests of the few and if the process circumvents that prescribed by the constitution;

4. Oppose all attempts to impose a repressive government, and more importantly; and

5. Be the voice of the powerless and the oppressed, those who do not have access to our government and are, thus, victims of injustice.

The first point can be ignored since this a presidential election, but none of the others are worth much attention, either. Consider what defines an effective platform:

  • Statement of problems or issues to be addressed.
  • Statement of solutions or objectives to address the problems or issues.
  • Rationale for choosing those solutions or objectives.

Aquino states that “attempts to weaken our democracy,” “government excesses and misgovernance,” “attempts to impose a repressive government,” and “lack of access of the powerless and the oppressed” are the problems he wishes to address. This is simply grim rhetoric in search of definitions or examples, not a valid statement of the problems or issues. Likewise his plan of action is devoid of, well, action – instead, Aquino vows to “continue to hold government to account,” “oppose attempts to impose a repressive government,” and “be the voice of” a certain vaguely-defined constituency. And why will he pursue these meaningless “objectives?” Who knows? Aquino doesn’t trouble himself or the electorate with a rationale.

Hopefully, Senator Aquino provides the electorate, who, after all, are his prospective employers, with better insights as to why they should consider him for the most important job in the country.

Who is my next President?

Lets start with discussing the candidates.

Noynoy Aquino is only slightly different from the rest of the pack. His sole claim to fame is that he is the son of Ninoy and Cory and the brother of Kris. Through many years in the Lower House and in the Senate, he has not succeeded in establishing his own political persona. Perhaps he has not even tried, content as he may have been to bask in the reflected glory of his forebears and his famous sibling.

Are these the attributes of a revolutionary leader? No. And yet this is what the Philippines needs, a leader who can start and lead a revolution, a peaceful one, as much as possible; a violent one, if necessary.

I do not know what Noynoy has accomplished nor what he believes in, that I must vote for him for president. What have you done and what do you propose to do if you were to become president? The same rule-of-thumb by which I measure others, especially Chiz Escudero and Gilbert Teodoro, two young men in a hurry to become president, but without any solid accomplishment to their credit, without any clear idea of what they would do if and when they got there.

It is not enough that you have a glib tongue in criticizing the many shortcomings of the Arroyo administration (Escudero), or that you went to Harvard Law School and was a bar topnotcher (Teodoro). What have you accomplished, and what do you propose to do if you were to become president?

By the same token, it is not enough that you are the son of Ninoy and Cory and the brother of Kris, Noynoy. What have you accomplished and what do you propose to do if you were to become president?

If his endorsers hope to connect Noynoy subliminally with his mother Cory Aquino’s People Power “Revolution” of 1986, then they would be making a mistake. By many accounts, including mine, the most notable thing about that “Revolution” was that it did not result in anything revolutionary, aside from removing the over-staying dictator.

For all her many admirable attributes, Cory Aquino was no revolutionary. She looked backward, towards restoring our polity to its pre-1972 configuration. She had no vision for the future, for building a New Jerusalem.

We cannot afford to have another backward-looking president, who wants to restore our polity to a pre-Arroyo configuration. That would be nothing less than – Holy Mother of God! – an Erap restoration.

That is why Noynoy (and Chiz and Gibo) must tell us what he and they have done and what they propose to do if he and they were to become president.

No, no, Noynoy. Being the son of Ninoy and Cory and the brother of Kris are not enough to reward you with the presidency. You must develop your own political persona, and part of that persona are your accomplishments in the past and your vision for the future.
